Hiring of 500 workers opposed

Karachi, July 5: The Sanitation Department of Saddar Town plans to appoint at least 500 workers in basic pay scale-3, but the Municipal Workers Trade Unions’ Alliance (MWTUA) smells something fishy and their leaders plan to resist the move. Chairman MWTUA Syed Zulfiqar Shah and General Secretary Fareed Awan both have declared to strongly resist these appointments as they were being made in violation of the past practice. The two leaders think that there were people in City District Government Karachi (CDGK) who wanted to adjust their favourites. Labour Market Dynamics In Pakistan

The bulk of research on labour market conditions in Pakistan has concentrated on the economic activity rate, the number of employed persons or the unemployment rate at a particular point in time (Nasir, 2001). These stock measures of labour market situation are useful from a policy viewpoint as they give a broad indication of the dimension of the problem. For instance, the recent labour force surveys show an increase in the level of open unemployment from 5.9 percent in 1997-98 to 7.8 percent in 1999-2000.
