Quota for school staff in labour colonies
BAHAWALPUR, Jan 9: Residential quota for teachers and other staff members of worker welfare schools (WWS) will be reserved in labour colonies and they would also be entitled to other incentives under the Labour Welfare Board`s rules and regulations in the province. This was stated by Punjab Minister for Labour and Religious Affairs Haji Ehsanuddin Qureshi while inaugurating evening shift for girls at Workers Welfare School here on Saturday. The minister said the teachers working in welfare schools would be treated on a par with the working classes, who were being granted a number of incentives by the government. ‘28,000 labourers’ children getting free education’
LAHORE, Jan 4: A delegation of students and teachers from private schools called upon the Provincial Minister for Labour Haji Ehsanuddin Qureshi at his office on Jan 3. Ehsanuddin urged the teachers to promote leadership qualities within the students as well as hone their talents, transforming them into confident and energetic youth leaders. He said that 28,000 labourers’ children were being provided free-of-cost standardised education at 46 workers’ welfare schools while 8,000 schools had also been established that were providing education to the adults. Writ against Social Security Department, others
SAHIWAL, Nov 28: Justice Ijaz Husain Shah of the Lahore High Court (Multan bench) has admitted a writ petition under article 199 of the Constitution against the Social Security Department and others for not completing registration and non-issuance of social security cards to 250 brick kiln labourers in Sahiwal division. The writ was filed by a local civil society organisation working for brick kiln laborers` rights in Sahiwal division. The petitioner pleaded that it was the legal right of kiln labourers to get the social security cards which was denied by kiln owners. It is learnt that some 250 kiln laborers have attached their individual applications they had submitted to the local Social Security Department as evidence with the writ petition. Sindh mulls over law to administer WWF, EOBI
Karachi, Oct 16: The Sindh government is in the process of enacting a law to monitor, supervise and administer labour-related funds pertaining to Workers Welfare Fund (WWF) and Employees Old-age Benefit Institute (EOBI), as the province is likely to be deprived of collecting over Rs 2 billion for the welfare of the workers if such legislation was not introduced, according to official sources and documents obtained by The News on Oct 15. Following the abolishment of the Concurrent Legislative List, all the subjects/laws related to the WWF, Workers Profit Participation Fund and other labour laws including EOBI have now been devolved to the provinces.
