Wapda workers’ strike

PESHAWAR, Mar 1: Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union has described the recent recruitment in Wapda as illegal and announced province-wide strike against the move on March 5. The decision was taken at a meeting held here on Feb 28 with central chairman Gohar Taj in the chair. Those who spoke on the occasion included provincial chairman Haji Mohammad Iqbal, Mustajab Mazdooryar and Ali Syed. They accused the administration of Peshawar Electric Supply Company of recruiting people on different posts in violation of the rules and demanded accommodating deserving people on the vacancies. FESCO STAFF CONTINUE STRIKE

FAISALABAD, May 14: Fesco employees and their officers continued their strike for the sixth day and staged a sit-in at Fesco Headquarters office against the appointment of a non-technical chief executive. They also blocked the road in support of their demand and vowed to continue their demo till withdrawal of private high officers appointed in power generation companies and appointment of non-technical heads of various power generation companies. Hesco, Wapda workers continue protests

HYDERABAD, May 14: Workers of the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) and Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) continued to protest on the fourth consecutive day on May 11 for the acceptance of their demands outside their respective offices in Hyderabad district, while locking the offices.A complete strike was observed at all offices of Hesco in the district like other cities of the country.The employees presented their demands to the government, including dissolution of Pepco, outsourcing of the posts of chief executive officers and operation and management of power houses and possible privatization of Wapda. Wapda workers continue strike

HYDERABAD, May 11: Workers continued the strike for third consecutive day on May 10 against privatisation of Wapda, outsourcing of power houses and dissolution of Pepco. They sought the attention of the Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and President Asif Zardari towards the issue. The strike call was given by the Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union. It announced of holding countrywide rallies in the second phase from May 14. Pesco staff boycotts work against sell-off

PESHAWAR, May 10: Workers of Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) on May 9 boycotted duty and staged a rally against the proposed Wapda privatisation and appointment of the heads of power companies. Pakistan Wapda Hydroelectric Central Labour Union chairman Gohar Taj and provincial chairman Mohammad Iqbal led the rally and said instead of privatising Wapda, the government should merge all power companies with it. Also in Swabi, Wapda employees announced to go on strike from today (May 10) against the proposed sell-off of Wapda and appointment of a retired military officer to its Peshawar region as chief executive.
