Textile workers, millers hold protests

  FAISALABAD, March 03: Textile industrialists and labourers staged a demonstration at the Clock Tower intersection on fourth consecutive day on March 02 to protest severe gas andelectricityoutages. Demanding a fair distribution of power and gas, the demonstrators set tyres ablaze and chanted slogans against the federal government while forcing shopkeepers of Aminpur Bazaar to close down their establishments. At some places, the demonstrators also hit the shutters of the shops with blunt objects to frighten the owners. However, no clash between the protesters and shopkeepers was reported. Equitable employment practices

Letters to the Editor, Feb 20: IMPORTANCE of having congenial employee relations cannot be denied as it is the prime requirement in achieving the other organisational goals. Essentially, employee relations are concerned with preventing and resolving problems involving individuals which affect work situations. To prevent problems from cropping up, the employer must strengthen relationship with his workforce to build a culture of trust and understanding in the organisation. Just employment practices seem to affect employees through improved morale, increased engagement, higher productivity and better retention. Bailout welcomed

LAHORE, Dec 31: THE Pakistan Railways Employee’s Union (PREM) has welcomed the 11 billion rupees bailout package to the Pakistan Railways (PR) but termed it peanuts as compared to the financial crisis faced by PR. PREM Central Vice President Sheikh Anwar said that the massive debts because of the flood catastrophe and the violence following Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed’s assassination cost PR Rs 21 billion. He said that in order to get PR back on strong footing the bailout package should have been close to what was offered to the PIA as Rs 25 billion. He went on to say that Rs 1 billion had been allocated for fuel payment from this package whereas PR was already facing a debt of more than that in the fuel department from the PSO.
