Nadra launches pension disbursement scheme

Karachi, April 15: The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) in collaboration with the Employees Old-age Benefits Institution (EOBI) has launched ‘Pension Disbursement Project’ on the directives of the President of Pakistan for all the pensioners enrolled with EOBI, chairman Nadra, Tariq Malik, announced on April 13. President Asif Ali Zardari has taken notice of the problems faced by pensioners and instructed the concerned ministries, divisions and authorities including Nadra to develop a new transparent and convenient pension disbursement system that will integrate seamlessly with the existing pension disbursement mechanism and increase the outreach for better facilitation of all federal government pensioners, Nadra official said. “The pension shall be … [Read more...]

EOBI to register self-employed, home-based workers

Karachi, Nov 15: The Chairman, Employees’ Old Age Benefits Institution (EOBI), Zafar Iqbal Gondal, has requested the working community to register themselves in EOBI for securing their future. In a statement issued here on Nov 14, he said that the EOBI provided old age pension, survivors’ pension’ and invalidity pension to the registered workers. Besides, he said, benefits of the Workers’ Welfare Fund were also available to the employees/employers registered with EOBI holding a Registration Card. He further said that families of registered workers were entitled to receive death grant from the WWF on the demise of their breadwinner. Ministry for action against non-registering workers in EOBI

ISLAMABAD, Oct 2: The Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) on Oct 1 asked to prepare possible actions to be taken against those industrial units who do not register their workers in Employees Oldage Benefit Institution (EOBI) for welfare of employees. Despite of several reminders some industrial units could not registered their workers in the EOBI, this was told to the Senate Standing Committee on HRD. Senator Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo chaired the Committee meeting. The Committee expressed serious reservations over non-registering workers. It is due to the fact after registration, the industrial unit owners unable to hide any things from tax administration department. Some worry about pension fund

ISLAMABAD, Sept 28: Questionable expenses in managing the Employees Old-age Benefit Institution (EOBI) are threatening its financial stability and the future of five million workers, who contribute money to its pension fund. Insiders claimed that if corrective steps are not taken now, the institution could be facing bankruptcy by 2022. Set up by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in 1970s as a social security net for the private sector workers, EOBI has grown and pays Rs10 billion annually to over 400,000 workers, in the form of Rs3,000 pension per month. “Today it runs like an insurance company, with five million workers of the sector, also their employers, contributing money for old-age benefits,” an EOBI officer informed, requesting anonymity. “By the time this huge number of … [Read more...]
