Labour Watch Pakistan (LWP) is a news-portal, which attempts to report major developments regarding labour rights in Pakistan. It is designed as a repository of labour related news and resources and is regularly updated. In addition to offering a subscription facility for interested stakeholders to stay current with latest news and updates, the LWP archives all of its information in a calendrical format.
The website aims to assist government institutions, donors, trade unions and other civil society organizations in monitoring the adoption and compliance of Pakistan labour laws, international labour standards and treaties, including the ILO core conventions. It is also intended to help bring understanding and increased awareness of the plight and progress of workers and their unions and the policies and events that affect their lives and livelihood. It is hoped that this news-portal will help encourage discussion, dialogue, advocacy and action to strengthen the rights and improve the conditions of working men and women in Pakistan.
The LWP values and acknowledges the vital role of Pakistani electronic and print media in highlighting the problems of workers and dedicates this initiative to all the journalists who devote their time and energies in an effort to bring some respite to the repressed and downtrodden fellow workers of their country.
The website is designed and maintained by CRLC, and supported by the Solidarity Center/ Pakistan and the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).
