LAHORE, Dec 7: Low-grade government officials on Dec 6 boycotted work in their offices and staged rallies all over the province to press for their demands for better pay and privileges.
The strike was observed on the call of the All Pakistan Clerks Association (Apca), holding demonstrations in front of the offices of the divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners.
In Lahore, the main Apca rally was taken out from Agriculture House to the CM Secretariat in the GOR-I. The demonstrators raised slogans against the government and disrupted traffic for quite some time.
Their leaders, including Haji Irshad, reiterated the Apca demands, including bringing the salaries of the low-grade employees on a par with those of their counterparts in the KP, across-the-board house requisition and utility allowances, regularisation of service of lower staff in different departments and payment of group insurance to them upon their retirement.
The demo ended after an official announcement that the chief secretary would meet Apca leadership on Thursday.
