LAKKI MARWAT, Dec 2: The protesting employees of district council on Dec 1 locked the offices of the bigwigs of the district government on the expiry of their deadline for payment of withheld salaries.
The agitation campaign of the district council employees against nonpayment of salaries entered the second phase on Dec 1 after observing a token strike for a week. The employees have not been paid salaries for last three months.
The protesters locked the offices of district nazim, district naib nazim and district council hall and staged a sit-in at the district headquarters complex in Tajazai.
On the occasion, the union’s president Anwar Ali Khan said the employees had no option other than to lock the offices as the quarters concerned didn’t take any notice of their token strike.
Mr Ali said the employees had no money to purchase daily use items and pay school fee of their children. He demanded of the provincial government to ensure immediate payment of salaries to the employees.
