Mar 6: THIS is to highlight the problems of retiring schoolteachers. Irrespective of their grades or basic pay-scales, teachers belong to the non-gazetted cadre. An application for retirement orders and payment of provident fund accumulation and gratuity, etc., must reach the office of the Accountant General. These officers delay the processing of applications on purpose and for selfish reasons.
However, there is one big exception. ‘Mafia groups’ are the only ones who expeditiously carry out the processing work of pension files which include gratuity and provident fund payments. A hefty commission, which ranges between Rs40,000 and Rs50,000, is charged.
Not all retiring teachers can afford to pay this hefty amount of money.
It is the duty of divisional level officers to issue retirement orders and set deadlines for the completion of the processing work. It is earnestly hoped that the Sindh Education Department will establish a monitoring committee and oversee the work of their gazetted officers.
There must be a complete ban on the entry of mafia groups in offices of the education department.
