TAXILA, Feb 12: A team of police and local administration on Feb 10 sealed two brick kilns besides registering cases against their owners under the Punjab Prohibition of Child Labour at Brick Kilns Act 2016.
The team headed by District Police Officer (DPO) Attock Ibadat Nisar raided different brick kilns in Burhan area on complaints of children being forced into labour on meager wages.
The DPO ordered the AC to seal the kiln and take legal action against their owners after registration of a case.
Later assistant commissioner Hassanabdal Jannat Hussain Nekokara registered a case against the accused.
Talking to newsmen on this occasion, the DPO said the district administration was committed to eradicating child labour from the area.
He added the Punjab government is proactively playing its role in ensuring that the menace of child labour at brick kilns must be eradicated at all cost.
The Punjab government carried out a survey last year to identify children working at more than 6,000 kilns and promulgated the Punjab Prohibition of Child Labour at Brick Kilns Ordinance 2016 to curb the child labour.
The key feature of the ordinance is that the kiln owner would be responsible for a child being employed as labour at his brick kiln.
